Abstract
This article reviews Ombudsman's Report No. 181 issued by the Peruvian Ombudsman's Office on municipal solid waste management in Peru, identifying the main achievements, limitations, and challenges in its implementation. It examines aspects related to planning, collection, final disposal, the regulatory framework, and compliance with the recommendations of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The review highlights the need to strengthen the capacities of local governments, improve interinstitutional coordination, and promote waste minimization and resource recovery as key pillars of sustainable and efficient environmental management.
