Abstract
On the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of the passing of Raúl Porras Barrenechea in 2020, this article pays tribute to the invaluable legacy of this distinguished Peruvian scholar, whose work filled significant gaps in the fields of history and the humanities in Peru, with particular emphasis on his role as a public servant.
Raúl Porras's outstanding contributions to academic research, professional practice, and positions of considerable political responsibility reflect an exceptional commitment to public service, which constitutes the central focus of this study. Accordingly, the article reviews his service in various public institutions, highlighting the distinctive characteristics of his work on behalf of the Peruvian State and emphasizing the qualities that made him an exemplary public servant.
Within the context of the modernization of the Peruvian State and the civil service reform initiated in recent years, examining this dimension of the renowned San Marcos scholar is particularly relevant. His ability to integrate academic excellence with public service provides a valuable model and enduring reference for those who dedicate their knowledge and talents to serving the nation.
